Sheridan Jones is an Australian artist who has spent much of her life living in the country surrounded by nature. As such her art has derived much inspiration from the landscape around her. Wildlife and environment impact upon her work in equal measures to the textures and patterns of the natural world.
That elusive quality that birds bring to mind of freedom, flight and a connectedness to both land and air become a topic of exploration and a personal expression of joy.
At the core of her work is a desire to also understand & remember the beneficial connections that exist between humans & other life forms, in the hope that it will (re) generate a deeper appreciation & respect for the natural world.
As a student she was torn between sculpture and printmaking, two passions which lead to a desire to combine them both, a process which has grown and developed over the years to what you now see before you. Traditional printmaking techniques, namely etching overlaid with processes derived from a seamstress’ repertoire bring to life these paper creatures, offering each of them their own personalities and attitudes.
