Darwin's Beard: diverse life forms and awaiting the return of the Beagle is homage to adventure, discovery and the work of naturalist Charles Darwin, it is also deference to the tyranny of distance inherent with sea travel and the longing of awaiting a loved one's return. The sculptures are a pair of imagined portraits of Charles and his wife Emma, based on Darwin's return from his scientific survey on the Beagle.[br] [br]Darwin's Beard is tribute to the spirit of adventure, discovery, of science and learning, above all about being constantly curious.[br][br]Imagined portraits of Charles and Emma Darwin. Charles's beard is teaming with creatures from his travels and Emma dreams of the return of her adventuring husband surrounded by birds carried aloft on sea breezes and ocean life teams around her.
